On Tuesday, October 20, 2020. Our board President, Antonio Ruano Jiménez, participated and presented to the McHenry County Board the need to cancel the county’s contract with ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and the Federal Government through which people in immigration processes are detained in McHenry County Jail.
In his participation he mentioned the consequences and impacts that removal and detention processes have on the community, particularly emphasized how family separation causes psychological and economic consequences in families, as well as in many cases thwarting the educational aspirations of children of deported immigrants.
Unfortunately through the contracts that prisons and counties have with ICE, they profit from the suffering of many men, women and children who in many cases have committed no crime and whose journey to the United States of America was the search of growth opportunities, and a better life for them and their families.
We appreciate the invitation of activist Sandra Dávila and everyone involved in this cause, we assure you that we will remain committed to your work.
Regarding the above mentioned, we are inviting people who are interested in participating to contact us at 815-322-2722 or programs@mazatecutlifoundation.org and share with us stories of how they have been affected by this contract or a deportation in the family, you can share your experiences publicly or you can do it anonymously here.
You can also sign the petition to cancel this contract here.
